Singaporean artist Nila Choo decided to adopt Wholesome Nila as the present artist-persona – a woman living in self-exile outside Singapore, that is an anonymous artist in Penang. Nila questions how gender is embodied – “How does one cry like a woman?” – as a video shows a transgender crying in the bathroom. This mirrors the private life of Murni that is exposed and consumed through her artworks.
