Celebrating Murni

Celebrating Murni gathers artists and creatives to create works in response to the legacy of late Balinese artist, I GAK Murniasih (Murni).

Murni is one of the most important female artists in Balinese Art. The ideas that she presents in her work, outlives her brief life. They continue to remain critical to contemporary society. “Celebrating Murni” is series of programs that ignite discussions on Murni’s legacy. Activating a community of local and international artists as respondents and participants. These discussions surround the issues of gender, society and art.

A group exhibition featuring the works of I GAK Murniasih and participating artists was exhibited in Sudakara Art Space in Sanur-Bali, from 16th July – 18 September 2016.

The project has invited 15 other artists from Bali as well as various other countries to be in conversation with Murni’s life and her works. These artists include: Citra Sasmita (Idn), Dewa Putu Mokoh (Idn), Edmondo Zanolini (Ita), Imhathai Suwatthanasilp (Tha), Made Bayak Ft. Kartika Dewi & Damar Langit Timur (Idn), Marieke Warmelink (Nld), Mella Jaarsma (Idn), Mintio (Sgp), Natasha Lubis (Idn), Ngakan Putu Agus Arta Wijaya (Idn), Oototol (Idn), Punia Atmaja (Idn), Ila (Sgp), Wawi Navarroza (Phl), Wholesome Nila (Sgp).
