Kintamani is one of the sub-districts located in Bangli Regency, Bali. It is well known for the beautiful scenery of Mount and Lake Batur. Lake Batur with the backdrop of Mount Batur, an active volcano, is a set for breath-taking views. The land, rich in minerals from the volcanic ashes, is extremely fertile for growing crops like onion, chili, vegetables and flowers.
Today, Lake Batur’s natural environment faces pressure from modern farming practices. With the increase in use of pesticides and fertilizers, excess chemicals are found in the Lake cause the water to be polluted and blanketed with the infestation of water hyacinth. Plastic waste is also found floating on the surface of the lake. Lake Batur once a giant natural pool for the children to swim in is now too polluted for swimming.
